For schools that teach Purposeful Design

Place every applicant in your own Purposeful Design courses.

When you sit down with a family, “ready for Mathematics Grade 6” means something to everyone at the table, including the teacher who will open the book on Monday. Placement Genius reports each applicant’s placement in the Purposeful Design course names your teachers use, with every gap named as a skill and the course where your sequence teaches it.

For applicants entering grades 3–8, in math and language arts.

How the report speaks Purposeful Design

Math places in Purposeful Design course names, from Mathematics Grade 3 through Intermediate Mathematics Course A and Course B. Language arts places in Purposeful Design course names through grade 5.

The Purposeful Design language arts series stops at grade 5 (the only course above it is Spelling Plus 6). If your school pairs it with another program for grades 6–8, you set that program for those grades at setup, and the report speaks in it.

You set your curriculum once, by subject and grade. If a grade runs a different program or level, you change that one grade, and the report follows what you actually teach.

The level names the report uses for grades 3–8, from the Purposeful Design pack. Course names only: we hold no Purposeful Design content and never reproduce its items.

Out of sequence is not the same as behind

Many of your applicants are public-school transfers. When a public school teaches a skill a year later than your Purposeful Design sequence does, a transfer who has not met it yet is out of sequence, not behind. The report keeps the two apart, and it uses the gentler wording only when it is true for the child.

That is the sentence a worried parent most needs to hear, and the card prints it in words you can say across the table, with a first-30-days plan for the skills to close.

How the Purposeful Design pack was built

It comes from Purposeful Design’s publicly published scope and sequence. It has not yet been checked in a pilot at a school that teaches Purposeful Design. Until it has, we ask your teachers to review the mapping with us before you rely on it.

Placement Genius is not affiliated with or endorsed by Purposeful Design or its publisher. The names above are used only to say which course a student is ready for.

See it in your own Purposeful Design courses

Request a pilot and we will run a sample applicant against your curriculum profile, so you can see the card in your own course names before your next family meeting.
